Let's Talk About Beautiful Art

Last week I talked about how art matters; how it’s always at the forefront of cultural change.

This week I want to highlight another of art’s great contributions to culture. Beauty. What is beautiful art's purpose? It makes the world more livable.

Yes, beautiful art matters

Many people think art’s only job is to create beauty. Beauty isn’t art’s only job, but it’s certainly one of the most crucial, especially now. Here’s a sample of beautiful art:

Helios: A Modern Renaissance--an a capella group that sounds like angels.

Les Delices--a chamber music group that plays a wide assortment of early music.

Lauren Lee--a muralist and painter whose gorgeous work can be found throughout the Phoenix area as well as in the homes of private collectors.

I'm not an art historian

This is a minuscule sample of beauty in art. The important point is that the beauty art brings to the world is part of what makes our world livable.

If you're interested in getting more of your work out into the world, here are four ways I can help you do this.

  1. Read these posts  about how to start handling any trauma you’ve experienced in getting your work into the world.

  1. If you are ready to start selling your art, Download my cheatsheet: Keep Calm & Sell Something. Follow the directions in there, and tell someone else you’re doing it so you can be accountable to them. While you begin working with your trauma, the best antidote to pain is companionship and connection.

  1. If you want to make yourself a day job (which means starting a business), get a copy of my business plan book for creatives, Passion, Plan, Profit, and find someone, or better, three other someones, and go through the book together.
