Design Is an Important Yet Often Overlooked Type of Art
Art brings beauty. Art ushers in social change. But you might miss another kind of art that is interwoven into our daily lives--Design.
Somehow I used to believe that design wasn’t art ...
But of course it is. Maybe because it’s easy to miss, since it’s everywhere. We’re surrounded by it--in our cars, homes, parks, gardens, even in mundane items like pens, notebooks, laptops, books--we even wear it on our bodies.
Good design, like all art, does its job. It evokes emotion.
Just for fun, take a look at these images and note how you feel as you see each one.

Not telling you what this is in advance.
Not telling what this is either, so you can have a non-pre-conceived experience without words.
Yep. Art matters.
Including good design. If you want help getting your art into the world, whatever type it is, book a chat.
Four ways I help artists get their work out into the world
Whatever category your art falls into, art for beauty's sake, art that creates social change, or design, I can help you get more of it into the world. Here are some of the ways:
- Read these posts about how to start handling any trauma you’ve experienced in getting your work into the world. They’re Trying to Protect You But They’re Actually Keeping You Down, and also this article, How to Put in the Work to Uncover Your Unconscious Money Beliefs will give you an idea about where to start metabolizing the pain.
- If you are ready to start selling your art, Download my cheatsheet: Keep Calm & Sell Something. Follow the directions in there, and tell someone else you’re doing it so you can be accountable to them. While you begin working with your trauma, the best antidote to pain is companionship and connection.
- If you want to make yourself a day job (which means starting a business), get a copy of my business plan book for creatives, Passion, Plan, Profit, and find someone, or better, three other someones, and go through the book together. The book tells you how to work in a group or in pairs, and you can download the worksheets in the book here. Companionship and connection again.
- If you want guidance, book a 15 minute chat with me here and I’ll get you pointed in the right direction.
