How to 'Fund' Your Project With Time

Today we'll be talking about how to "find time" for your projects. I've designated January "How To Get Going On Your Projects Month." Why? Creative projects can be tough to finish. I'm sharing tools that can either help you get started, or get further into a creative project you’re struggling with.

The first week, I talked about how to find the purpose of your project, and how that can keep you motivated if you run into resistance.

The second week, I showed you how to have a conversation with the project itself. I hope you tried that, as weird as it might have sounded.  I talked to my latest book: Artists: Don’t Starve! It told me to write 30 minutes every day. I have two weeks of that under my belt and surprise! It WORKS!

The third week, I demonstrated how to have a conversation with the people who need your project. I hope you tried that too.

How to find time for your projects? Fund your project with tIme.

This may seem super-obvious. Of course you have to set aside time. What I’m suggesting is that you view setting aside time for your project the way you’d set aside money to fund it. Allocate specific days and times, the way you’d allocate a specific amount of money to buy something. It helps to put it in writing.

You can ask the project itself what times it wants you to work, or ask the part of yourself that knows when you do your best work, then follow their advice. It's not so much how to find time for your projects, but how to create space for those projects.

Your work matters. Make time to put in the work so can complete your projects. And if you need help,  book a 15 minute chat with me and we’ll brainstorm it.
