How Creatives Can Work Through Fear of Money

Creatives and their fear of money related stuff...that phrase conjures up a clear image in my mind. We all know a creative with a money block, and they could be staring you in the mirror. Part of taking yourself seriously as a creative is confronting your attitudes around money.

Once you start taking yourself seriously, you may begin to notice some behaviors that don’t serve you.

The prime behavior that trips up creatives is avoidance/vagueness/fear around money.

If this is you, don’t worry. I’m not going to lecture about how you should eat white bread and beans until your debts are all paid off and you have ten years of cash in the bank.

This is an invitation to look and see if you’re able to handle money without fear; handle it like it’s simply a tool, a means to some ends, a neutral energy source.

If you can’t yet, you’re not alone.

And if you can’t, it’s most likely the result of trauma. Creatives like you come by your vagueness about and fear of money honestly. Nobody wakes up in the morning and thinks, "Jeez, I think I’ll avoid using the math skills I learned in second grade and not look at my finances. If the ATM still spits out cash, I’m good, right?"

Maybe because I have so much experience with my own money issues and have deep compassion for people suffering with them too, I attract clients who are ready to face their money demons. Virtually every coaching client I’ve worked with over my 16-year career has faced issues with money.

What does treating your money seriously look like for you?
