Here Comes the Judge: "Your Work Isn’t Quite Good Enough!"
Here comes the Judge
This is the sometimes almighty-loud, sometimes soft and hurtful omnipresent voice in your head that says your work isn’t quite good enough. Some call it your inner critic. I call it the Judge.
Last week, I talked about the Jellyfish--the voice in our heads that tells us we need to do a lot of other stuff before we can start to make our art. This is the voice of resistance.
If you manage to overcome the Jellyfish and actually start making art, a new obstacle shows up to make sure you don’t finish anything. That block is your inner critic--the Judge.
My new book, Artists: Prosper! Make Peace With Your Brain, and Money + Joy With Your Art is out this month (although it might not be ready to order until October 39th. Fingers crossed). I spend the first part of the book talking about what blocks us from making art.
Do you know your inner critic?
Have you named your inner critic? Mine’s called Christina Perfectionista. She’s a skinny, stiletto-wearing, high-strung crazy woman who’s desperate to make sure I never show my writing to anyone.
Does your Judge have a name?
Have you named your Judge? Send me an email to tell me. I’m giving out copies of Artists: Prosper! to people with the best names.
How to be in the know when my book comes out
If you’d like to be notified when the book becomes available, go here and give me your email address. You’ll be among the first to know. And if your Judge is making your life miserable, take heart. You’ll learn how to make peace with it in Artists: Prosper!
THANKS for your support--for reading this blog, for helping me work out the ideas for the book in this writing, and for continuing to do your art, whatever form it takes.
Remember, our work matters. Don't let your inner critic stop you.
In the meantime, helping you figure out what you’re really doing in your business for your people, and the best way to communicate it to them are my superpowers. If you need help with this, let’s chat.
